Children's Aid apprehend a child living under a back-alley staircase. He has no recollection of his past, his name or where he came from. Police can find no record of his parents or guardians. Jesse Carter is a recent graduate with a Master of Social Work degree from McGill University. In his first job with the Children's Aide Society, he witnesses firsthand the ugly underbelly of inner-city social work. He encounters the boy with the missing past and they piece together an incredible journey of physical and psychological survival.
