Chilika Lake Tour Guide: Best Time, Boating Cost & How to Reach
The best time to visit Chilika Lake is generally October to February. The weather is more comfortable for spending time outdoors, and winter brings migratory birds to the lagoon.
November, December and January are particularly interesting for birdwatchers. You can often see birds gathered around the wetlands and islands. The exact sightings, of course, depend on natural conditions. There is no fixed list waiting for you.
October is a good option if you prefer slightly warmer days. By March and April, the afternoon heat becomes harder to ignore, especially when you are out on an open boat.
The monsoon changes the scenery again. The surroundings become greener and the lake has a quieter feel, but rain can interfere with boating plans. For a first visit, the cooler months are easier to plan around.
