A virus is a specialized organism without a cellular structure, consisting of a protein coat and genetic material inside. Since viruses are acellular, they cannot achieve numerical growth through cell division. They use the metabolic tools in the host cell to synthesize copies of themselves and complete viral assembly. Viruses are everywhere, and many human diseases are caused by viral infections.
