What's the minimum investment for an AIF in India?
SEBI mandates a minimum investment of ₹1 crore per investor for most AIF categories (with a lower ₹25 lakh threshold for AIF employees/directors in some cases). On the fund side, SEBI also requires AIFs to raise a minimum corpus depending on the scheme type before they can operationally launch — this protects against thinly-capitalized, high-risk vehicles. So there are two separate minimums to know: what you personally need to commit (₹1 Cr), and what the fund itself needs to raise before it's SEBI-compliant to operate.
